Fingers are cave-dwelling enemies in Sons of the Forest. They're relatively common creepy mutants, which appear both on the surface and in the caves. After dying, one can be skinned to receive 1 piece of creepy armor.

Appearance

These creatures are mostly humanoid- although faceless -mutants who possess a massive maw extending up their torso, neck and head. They have rows of finger-like appendages around their maw, seemingly intended for grabbing prey and lack arms of any sort.

Behavior and Tactics

They are naturally hostile to the player. When approached, they will charge the player and attempt to hit them by using their whole body as a weapon. These mutants are relentless in their attacks, so care should be taken before challenging one. They deal lots of damage when hitting the player, so blocking and dodging is advised.

Hitting or shooting one of their legs will temporarily immobilize them and thus create opportunity for the players to kill them. While melee is not recommended, watching their telegraphs and counting their swings can be very advantageous. The Katana can be used to disable their legs, and the Machete can be used to stun lock solo Fingers as long as you don't expect company to sneak up behind you.

When killed, they spit a web-like substance from their mouth, which doesn't effect the player. Their bodies can be skinned for 1 creepy armor.

When they don't detect the player, these mutants will wander around their cave dwellings and spew long strings of a white substance. Typically where they spawn, a frothy, bubbly, white substance can be seen up the cave walls and across the ceiling, as well as stringy, white viscus fluids. More than likely, this fluid serves as a larder for themselves and Blind Mutants alike, because dead humans can be found stuck in this substance along with their belongings. Additionally, if downed by a Fingers, the player will wake up sealed in a viscus pod of milky, white goop that they must cut themselves free from.

Locations

In early game, these mutants are found in most caves. However, there aren't many of them considering they are slightly stronger than most other Enemies. In late game, they become more common, especially above ground due to increasing difficulty as each day goes by.

Story (Spoiler Warning)

Not much is known about the history of this mutant at this time. However, in the banquet hall it can be seen sitting in a chair with the nameplate “Hank kays”

This is the name of the Redlamp Storage Company employee that was emailing Puffton Industries. It is possible that this mutant is in fact, Hank.

Trivia

  • Ronnie(s) was the first name given to the creature's model as a placeholder during the game development period, as mentioned in an interview with youtuber Farket.
  • Their design could be inspired by the Lying Figures from the Silent Hill franchise, due to their strong resemblance. It's also worth noting that Fingers spit a substance from their chest, just like Lying Figures spit acid from their chest.
  • Like the twins and demon mutants, Fingers CAN be repelled by the cross, however you can still get attacked if you stay close.
